Levin Torn White (2011) is a bold studio collaboration between bassist Tony Levin (King Crimson, Peter Gabriel, Stick Men), guitarist David Torn, and drummer Alan White (Yes). Released on September 13 via Lazy Bones Recordings, the album features 14 instrumental tracks spanning 55 minutes of fearless, genre-defying music.
Blending jazz fusion, progressive rock, and experimental textures, the record thrives on Torn’s atmospheric and unconventional guitar work, Levin’s signature bass and Chapman Stick lines, and White’s dynamic drumming. Producer Scott Schorr also contributed piano and keyboards, further expanding the sonic palette.
Tracks such as No Warning Lights, Monkey Mind, and Cheese It, The Corpse highlight the trio’s adventurous interplay, while pieces like Pillowfull of Dark and Lights Out showcase more ambient and textural explorations.
Critics praised the album’s daring approach, with Something Else Reviews naming it the #1 Album of 2011 and Prog Archives listeners rating it among the year’s standout progressive releases. With its mix of intensity, experimentation, and improvisational spirit, Levin Torn White stands as one of Tony Levin’s most adventurous collaborations.
