Double Espresso captures the Tony Levin Band at their most dynamic and inventive, recorded live at the legendary Bearsville Theater in Woodstock, New York. This expansive two-disc set showcases the band’s adventurous blend of progressive rock, jazz, and genre-bending reinterpretations, with a setlist that moves seamlessly between Tony’s original compositions and bold covers.
Disc One highlights include Pieces of the Sun, the playful Dog One (originally developed with Peter Gabriel), a spirited rearrangement of Tequila, and a thunderous take on Led Zeppelin’s Black Dog. Disc Two expands further with powerful renditions of Phobos (from Larry Fast’s Synergy project), Genesis’ Back in N.Y.C., and King Crimson classics like Sleepless and Elephant Talk. The California Guitar Trio joins the band for a rousing performance of Henry Mancini’s Peter Gunn, while the album closes on a reflective note with Belle.
The lineup features Tony Levin on bass, Chapman Stick, cello, acoustic guitar, and vocals; Jerry Marotta on drums, sax, percussion, and vocals; Larry Fast on synthesizers; Jesse Gress on guitar and vocals; and guest appearances from Doug Stringer, Pete Levin, and the California Guitar Trio.
Produced by Tony Levin and mixed by Terry Brown, Double Espresso distills the energy and range of the band’s live performances into a definitive document of their early 2000s sound—bold, eclectic, and endlessly engaging.
